Meeting to celebrate 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties

On September 4th, The Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association and Can Tho Union of Friendship Organisations (CTUFO), along with city departments and agencies, held a solemn meeting to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 – September 5, 2022), the 45th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (1977-2022), and the Vietnam–Laos Year of Friendship and Solidarity 2022.

Attending the meeting were Mr. Cao Viet Thang, Director of Localities III, Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, and Mr. Pham Thanh Van, former Standing Deputy Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee.

Mrs. Phimpha Keomixay, the Lao People's Democratic Republic's consul general in Ho Chi Minh City, was present at the meeting.

Addressing the event, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, reviewed the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos over the past 60 years. Can Tho's government and people have always regarded the city's traditional friendship with Laos as an important factor in foreign affairs. Can Tho City and the localities of Laos have strengthened their cooperation in many fields over the years, organising numerous cultural and people-to-people exchange activities. He believed that friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos would be sustainable under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

On this occasion, Ms. Phimpha Keomixay informed about Laos' socio-economic development; expressed gratitude for the good cooperation and special solidarity between Laos and Vietnam over the years; and expressed hope that this relationship would continue to develop.

The meeting featured many special music and dance performances performed by the City Cultural Center and the Truong Son Performing Arts Team.
