Preliminary conference on “All people unite to build new-style rural and civilized urban areas” campaign

In the morning of December 15th, the Standing Board of the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front held a nationwide online conference to partly review the five - year implementation of the campaign, namely “All people unite to build new - style rural and civilized urban areas”, in the 2016 -2021 period.

The “All people unite to build new style rural and civilized urban areas” campaign was launched by the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front and officially implemented at the end of 2015. It has achieved many remarkable results after five –year implementation.

According to the report at the conference, after 5 years of implementation, the campaign has encouraged people to promote the tradition of solidarity, arouse resources, potential, and internal strength right in each person, family and community in economic, cultural - social development, maintaining security. A long with the Party and State, the campaign has also promoted socialization, effectively solved social security issues and sustainably reduced poverty. The material and spiritual life of everyone has been gradually improved. The consensus in society, the tradition of solidarity, mutual affection and mutual love of the people of all ethnic groups have been strongly promoted. The campaign also showed the will, solidarity and sharing of the Vietnamese people, the more difficult the situation was, the stronger the solidarity and community were connected.

In five years, units of all levels have implemented 14.000 works in building new - style rural and civilized urban areas. People voluntarily donated 26.7 million square meters of land to build roads and civil works. Localities mobilized hundreds of billions of dong to build essential infrastructure in rural areas and so on.  As of November 2020, the whole country had nearly 5.400 communes meeting new rural standards.

In the 2016 - 2021 period, the Fatherland Front Committees of all levels mobilized more than 32.000 billion VND. Together with the support from the State, the Committees repaired and built 228.221 solidarity houses for the poor and helped them escape sustainably from poverty.

In Can Tho city, after five years of implementing the campaign, the city has 36 out of 36 communes meeting the new rural standard, reaching 100%, 17 out of 36 communes meeting the new advanced rural standard, and 4 out of 4 districts being approved the new rural districts. The rate of poor households (according to the new criteria) in the whole city at the end of 2016 was 3.75% and until now, it has decreased to 0.25% (equivalent to 913 households). Moreover, the people's living standards have been gradually improved.

In addition, in the past five years, the city has mobilized organizations and individuals inside and outside the city to contribute to a 3 - level fund of over 117 billion dong to repair 2.760 solidarity houses with the value of over 113 billion dong. The units at all levels also built and repaired 1.241 houses of gratitude and charity with a total amount of over 49 billion dong. It also mobilized the "Relief" fund to reach over 16 billion dong, directly providing 6 billion 900 million dong to the central provinces that suffered losses, promptly paying attention to support households damaged by natural disasters, tornadoes, river bank landslides, and serious diseases in the area with a total amount of 1 billion 616 million dong.
