On the evening of July 26, at the City Martyrs’ Cemetery, Can Tho City Youth Union in cooperation with the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of the city organized the Ceremony “Lighting Candles of Gratitude” for Heroes and Martyrs on the 75th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2022). Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, Nguyen Trung Nhan Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City, the leaders of departments, agencies, unions of the city, and over 1,000 youth union members attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, the leaders of the city offered flowers and incense to the National Acknowledgement Monument to commemorate and pay tribute to the deceased heroes and martyrs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien - Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee stated that, with the tradition of expressing gratitude, authorities at all levels, sectors, and localities in the whole city had paid attention to the movements and activities for appreciation and promptly carried out preferential policies for people with revolutionary merits. With infinite gratitude, the Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee emphasized: The Party, the administration, and the people in the city showed deep gratitude to the heroes, the martyrs, the Vietnamese heroic mothers, the veterans, the late volunteers, the families with revolutionary merits and their relatives. “The Party, the administration, and the people of Can Tho City commit unity, move forward to the cause of the revolution of the Party and Uncle Ho, strive for the successful performance of political, socio-economic, defense and security duties, turn Can Tho City into an increasingly civilized and beautiful city to embellish the patriotic tradition of the heroic Can Tho”, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien emphasized.
On this occasion, the Organization Committee gave gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mother Tran Thi Hai (residing in Khanh Binh Area, Phu Thu Ward, Cai Rang District) and 20 gifts to disadvantaged students studying at schools in the city who are children and grandchildren of wounded soldiers, martyrs, families with revolutionary merits. Each gift included a bicycle, a helmet, a school bag, and notebooks to help them overcome learning difficulties.
On the same evening, in Long Tuyen Martyrs’ Cemetery (Binh Thuy District) and O Mon District Martyrs’ Cemetery, a candle lighting ceremony was held with incense being offered at 4,900 graves of heroes and martyrs. Earlier, on the evening of July 24, the Thot Not District Youth Union also celebrated the candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs.
