On June 5th, 2022, in Cai Rang District, Can Tho City Department of Natural Resources and Environment held a meeting in response to World Environment Day (June 5th) 2022 with the theme “Only One Earth”.

“World Environment Day 2022 with the theme ‘Only One Earth’ is to convey and call for building a sustainable lifestyle that is in harmony with nature; rationally using natural resources, biodiversity and responding to climate change through policies towards a cleaner and greener lifestyle. This is also the time for each country to join hands as well as take concrete and practical actions for the nature and the Earth.” Mr. Duong Tan Hien, Permanent Vice Chairperson of Can Tho City People's Committee emphasized in his speech at the event. He also called on all levels of Party committees, authorities, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City, unions, international organizations, enterprises and people to join hands and contribute to protecting ecological environment, preserving and rationally using natural resources, protecting biodiversity and environmental landscapes, contributing to the transformation of Can Tho into a more modern, brighter, greener, cleaner, more beautiful and sustainably developed city.
Also, Can Tho City Department of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with other departments, agencies and unions in the implementation of many cleaning, trash collecting and treating activities in densely populated areas, in rivers and canals, and at Cai Rang floating market. At the same time, the Department also strengthened information and communication activities to raise community awareness about building a sustainable lifestyle, living in harmony with nature, developing the economy in association with environmental protection and climate change adaptation, building and replicating effective models in organizing the collection, classification and treatment of domestic waste at sources, promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly consumption, etc. On this occasion, representatives of the Sustainable Development Program of World Wide Fund - Vietnam delivered to Can Tho City the Medal of the International Green City Program and the Global Mayor Convention on Climate and Energy.
After the meeting, hundreds of cadres, civil servants, youth union members from departments, agencies, socio-political organizations and unions of the city participated in a parade on the main roads of Cai Rang District to convey messages on environmental protection to the citizens and at the same time, cleaned and collected garbage along the roads as well as in Cai Rang Floating Market area.
► In response to World Environment Day 2022 and the Month of Action for Environment, Can Tho City Women’s Union organized the “Green Journey - Joining Hands in Environment Protection” program. Its members marched on bicycles calling on everyone to join hands in protecting the environment and at the same time, organized the "Zero Waste to Mekong River" cleaning campaign, distributed leaflets encouraging people not to throw garbage into the river and collecting trash at Cai Rang Floating Market, etc. They also planted 100 telshur trees in Phong Dien District.

Aside from the activities above, the Union continued to carry out the “Green Sunday” to clean up Bung Xang Lake (June 12th); a program on exchanging trash for gifts (June 18th), etc.
