Japan and Republic of Korea donate medical supplies to Can Tho City

On the afternoon of January 4, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Can Tho City held the Handover Ceremony of Medical Supplies for COVID-19 Prevention and Control donated by Jeollanamdo Province, Republic of Korea (RoK) and Okayama City, Japan.

The ceremony was held virtually in connection with the Representative Office of Jeollanamdo Province in Ho Chi Minh City.

Can Tho City’s authorities receive medical supplies from Japan and RoK

Mr. Duong Tan Hien, member of the Standing Board of Can Tho City Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, member of the Standing Board of Can Tho City Party Committee and Chairman of the VFF Committee of Can Tho City, and representatives from Department of Foreign Affairs and Department of Health were among the guests at the ceremony.

10,000 face shields and 50,000 face masks worth 470 million VND were donated and would be handed over to Department of Health and the VFF Committee of Can Tho City to aid the pandemic prevention and control in the city.

At the ceremony, Mr. Duong Tan Hien stated that the city has received medical equipment, rapid test kits, face shields, and face masks with a total value of 1.7 billion VND from foreign localities including Jeollanamdo Province, RoK and Okayama City, Japan since the fourth wave of COVID-19 broke out.

“During the current challenging condition of the COVID-19 pandemic, donations from other countries provide both material support and enormous encouragement to Can Tho City in its efforts to avoid, control, and defeat the COVID-19 pandemic. They also highlight the support and friendship that exists between international countries and Vietnam, as well as between foreign localities and Can Tho City," said Mr. Hien.

Mr. Jeong Jong Gyun, Chief of the Representative Office of Jeollanamdo Province in Ho Chi Minh City, spoke on behalf of the donor, saying that the medical supplies for the COVID-19 response proved the affection of 1.9 million Jeollanamdo citizens for Can Tho City. He highly appreciated the Can Tho City administration's efforts to prevent and control COVID-19 over time. Furthermore, he hoped that the pandemic would end soon so that the two communities could organize their friendship exchange activities.

On behalf of the recipient, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan commented that the aid was a precious gift from Okayama City, Japan, and Jeollanamdo Province, RoK to Can Tho City during the difficult time due to the pandemic.  He also expected that the city would continue to receive assistance, collaborate on mutual development, and promote the effectiveness of its COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.
