The Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations, Friedrich Naumann Foundation (Germany) in Vietnam, and Can Tho University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding

March 10th at the office of Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations_ The Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Institute (FNF) in Vietnam, and Can Tho University signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in implementing of programs and projects on people-to-people diplomacy  combined with education; implementing the Project "Promoting Sustainable Urban Development and Environmental Protection"; organizing seminars on environmental issues, climate change, and international economics; researching and transfering research results on capacity building to Mekong Delta enterprises.

Delegates attend the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations, FNF Institute (Germany) in Vietnam, and Can Tho University.

According to Le Thi Thanh Giang, Chairwoman of the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations, the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations and the FNF Institute and Can Tho University will be the first step for the FNF Institute to expand its operative area in Can Tho City, attracting lots of German partners’ investment and cooperation in the city and the Mekong Delta, contributing to the further strengthening of the cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Germany in general, as well as Can Tho in particular.

The cooperation contents will contribute to promoting activities to improve the solidarity and friendship between German and the people of Can Tho; connecting businesses in Can Tho and those in Germany to learn and exchange about investment and cooperation opportunities; introducing and mobilizing German NGOs to research and implement social security activities in Can Tho City with the goal of poverty alleviation, helping the disadvantaged; fostering sustainable urban development and environmental protection in the City.

The signing of a memorandum of collaboration among the three parties, according to Prof. Dr. Andreas Stoffers, Director of the FNF Institute in Vietnam, will bring them together in establishing joint activities, encouraging the long-term growth of both Can Tho and the Mekong Delta.  Mr. Stoffers also believes that this cooperation will help Vietnam's economic recovery and repositioning post-COVID-19 Pandemic.

On behalf of the leaders of Can Tho City, Nguyen Trung Nhan, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City, thanks the FNF Institute for selecting the city to sign a cooperation agreement and carry out project activities in the near future. According to Mr. Nhan, this significant event opens up new opportunities for boosting people-to-people diplomacy and extending international cooperation in the sphere of science and technology and business development.

Mr. Nhan has further underlined that project activities not only assist the city in proactively adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change, strengthening scientific research activities and cooperating in mitigation and adaptation in climate change events on a global scale, but they also provide an opportunity for businesses in Can Tho and those in Germany to learn and strengthen trade connections and cooperation in the coming time.

Mr. Nhan hopes that through this memorandum, Can Tho University will continue to collaborate with the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations and the FNF Institute to carry out the activities of the project to promote scientific research and trade activities between the city and foreign partners, bringing practical effects, promoting country friendship, people-to-people diplomacy, exchange cooperation, and interdisciplinary cooperation.
